Why to use a composting service?
Composting is not very complicated process to be recreated on your own backyard, but certain temperatures has to be followed as well as certain ratio between nitrogen and carbon. On top of it compost pile can’t be very dry or very wet.
Separate third type of waste from already two existing piles can be tiresome, but China stopped accepting as many plastic from recycling as it used to, so many such programs are wrapping up. It is in our power to help each other and our planet. (NPR news article: https://n.pr/2KfSot8).
So composting service is very easy and convenient way to make positive impact on the planet.
How does it work?
For residential homes lease a bin and arrange a pick up, or subscribe to bi-weekly pick up service for $20 a months. More waste is generated by household, cheaper it is to compost.
Why does typical landfill not fit to be a composting pile for all?
Landfills generally are fit, but not for compost. All garbage delivered to the landfill is compressed very tightly, so there is not enough oxygen to degrade food waste properly. On top of it plastic, coated paper and so on is in the same pile, preventing usage of the degraded material for gardens and loans as very nutritious humus.
Also your food waste doesn’t travel far away and it doesn’t smell (landfills are: https://bit.ly/2VxR2vG), because of the temperature of composting pile and its components.
Humus is the dark organic matter that forms in soil when dead plant and animal matter decays. Humus has many nutrients that improve the health of soil, nitrogen being the most important. The ratio of carbon to nitrogen (C:N) of humus is 10:1. (source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humus)
Most people make mistakes and they are given a second, third and so on chances, why shouldn’t we do the same with our food waste?
